Buicks in Cinema: A Classic Brand on the Silver Screen

Buick has remained a status symbol for many years, representing refinement and durability. That’s perhaps one reason the brand has been featured in several films over the years. From classics like Rain Man (1988) to more recent flicks like La La Land (2016), you’ll find several Buicks in cinema.

The Academy-Award winning film Rain Man in many ways revolves around the automotive world. Charlie (Tom Cruise) sells luxury cars for a living; he travels on the road with his autistic brother, Raymond (Dustin Hoffman); Charlie inherits his father’s car, an important gesture. The 1949 Buick Roadmaster convertible at the heart of Rain Man is more than just an inheritance—it’s one of the few things that tangibly links the estranged brothers to their past.

According to The News Wheel, you can also spot another Buick Roadmaster in Martin Scorsese’s The Departed (2006). The maroon-colored luxury car suits the mob boss Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) in a way that no other car can. Perhaps because of the refinement of Buick models, they feature prominently in many other gangster flicks like The Untouchables (1987) and Road to Perdition (2002).

Finally, a Buick pops off the screen in the recent La La Land (2016), a film that creates a modern take on the classic musical genre. A 1982 Buick Riviera appears while Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) is stuck in traffic shortly before a musical number breaks out, and the car also features prominently whenever Sebastian arrives at the home of Mia (Emma Stone), as he honks the horn loudly.

Buicks are everywhere on the Silver Screen, but you can see them in person at Danny Len Buick GMC. Plan your test drive today.

Come See Classic Cars at Mt. Dora Museum of Speed

Mt. Dora Museum of Speed Buick

Classic cars are an uncontested aspect of American culture, with the U.S. auto industry giving rise to companies like Ford and General Motors and producing the powerful and iconic muscle cars of the 1970s. Here in Mt. Dora, Florida, we have a special kind of attraction that’s geared for the auto enthusiasts at heart: the Mt. Dora Museum of Speed. Filled with classic cars carefully collected and curated over the years, it’s a glimpse into the history of automobiles.

The Mt. Dora Museum of Speed resides in a refurbished Texaco Gas Station dating back to the 1940s, with signs that go back further to the 1920s. The museum specializes in low-mileage, documented, original, fully-restored historical vehicles, produced by either American or foreign brands; their collections include “professional” cars. It’s an adult-only museum; children under 14 are prohibited due to the fact museum’s valuable merchandise. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.; Saturday hours are available by appointment. The entrance fee is $15 per person.

At Danny Len Buick GMC, we highly recommend the Museum of Speed for a crash course in the history of the auto industry.

5 Reasons Why Your Check Engine Light is On

check engine light Dashboard GMC Sierra

Few things in life are as cryptic as the dreaded “check engine light,” the glowing warning sign that pops up on our vehicle’s dashboard and could be any number of terrifying ailments – or just an issue with the car’s computer. Here are a few reasons why your car may be displaying its check engine light.

Oxygen Sensor

Your engine will use extra fuel and potentially damage your catalytic converter and spark plugs if you don’t replace a faulty O2 sensor, which measures the oxygen in your vehicle’s exhaust system.

Mass Airflow Sensor

This sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine and determines how much fuel to use. If this needs to be replaced, it could damage the oxygen sensor and catalytic converter.

Catalytic Converter

A malfunctioning catalytic converter can cause the check engine light to come on. Usually caused by neglected maintenance, damage to your catalytic converter results in more carbon monoxide emissions and poor fuel economy.

Spark Plugs

Your spark plugs may need to be replaced, or there could be an issue with your plug wires. This can cause reduced performance or clog your catalytic converter.

Gas Cap

If broken, missing, or loose, the check engine light may come on for a simple gas cap.

These are the top five most common reasons why your check engine light may flip on. Thankfully, most of them are an easy fix. If you need helping servicing your vehicle, stop by Danny Len Buick GMC.

7 Easy Ways to Clean Your Car

easy ways to clean your car

Spring has come and gone, but in case you missed the opportunity to spring clean your car, we at Danny Len Buick GMC have compiled seven easy ways to clean your car this summer.

Easy Ways to Clean Your Car: Interior

  1. Start with a trash bag and clear out everything from under the seats or in random nooks and crannies.
  2. Swap out your cabin air filter, especially if you suffer from allergies. (If you’re not sure how to do it, schedule an appointment with our service department, and we’ll be happy to help!)
  3. Take a paintbrush and toothbrush and scrub those hard-to-clean spots. Paintbrushes are good for the dust in the vents, but you’ll want to vacuum as you scrub so that the dust doesn’t just land somewhere else. Use the toothbrush to scrub at the difficult textures of your vinyl, which can collect dust and dirt.
  4. Use a carpet cleaner to clean your floor mats and your cloth seats.

Easy Ways to Clean Your Car: Exterior

  1. Use glass cleaner for the windshield and windows, and consider purchasing some Rain-X to apply afterward.
  2. Invest in products for cloudy headlights, and replace your windshield wipers if they are worn and leave streaks.
  3. Consider taking your car through a car wash once a month, or as necessary.

Check Out These Exciting 2018 Buick LaCrosse Updates

2018 Buick LaCrosse Updates

A number of 2018 Buick LaCrosse updates have been announced! The vehicle will be available here at Danny Len Buick GMC this fall. Make sure to come in for a test drive when it arrives, but until then, here’s some info on the new LaCrosse.

2018 Buick LaCrosse Updates

  • Buick is adding three new exterior colors for the 2018 LaCrosse: Dark Slate Metallic, Red Quartz Tintcoat, and Satin Steel Metallic.
  • The new 2018 LaCrosse will get eAssist light electrification, adding an electric motor to the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Buick says this will boost city fuel efficiency by a whopping 19 percent. (The 2017 Buick LaCrosse’s standard engine manages an 18 MPG City rating*, so a 19 percent improvement could take it to more than 21 MPG in the city.)
  • That motor will get its power from a 24-cell air-cooled 0.45 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This means the new LaCrosse will boast features like regenerative braking, torque-assisted launch, and super smooth Stop/Start functionality.
  • In other performance news, LaCrosse models that instead get their motivation from the 3.6-liter V6 will now be available with a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
  • Buick is adding all-wheel drive to the Essence trim level.

Keep following along with us at Danny Len Buick GMC for more information.

all-new Buick Regal TourX Interior

The Buick Regal is getting a complete overhaul. In fact, it will soon be available in two distinct model options. The first is the athletic Regal Sportback arriving this fall and the other is the adventurous and all-new Regal TourX.

The Buick Regal TourX aims to be your guide for new adventures. It comes with a few factory-installed features to make it more rugged than its Sportback counterpart. Catch a Glimpse of the New 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

We are only halfway through 2017, but already, some 2018 models have arrived. And, we are even getting a glimpse of the future with some spy shots of the upcoming, next-generation 2019 GMC Sierra 1500.

With these shots, we can see that the truck maintains its rugged personality. However, with still so much padding and camouflage, it is hard to see the details. The truck was spotted out driving in the Colorado Rockies, a great place to test a truck’s capabilities.

While we don’t know many specific details, we do know that the next-generation of GMC trucks will start using lighter weight materials, like aluminum, in its body panels.

Along with a new construction material, the new truck will likely have a new engine lineup that will include both a diesel and a mild hybrid powertrain option. In addition, these engines will probably be paired with either eight- or 10-speed automatic transmissions.

While GM hasn’t made an official announcement, the industry expects to see the new 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 officially unveiled at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January.

Here at Danny Len Buick GMC, we can’t wait to see what this next-generation of GMC trucks will offer its loyal fans.

Tips for the Most Simple Beach Day Ever

At Danny Len Buick GMC we love going to the beach just as much as the next Floridian. But sometimes beach days can be stressful, especially when you have multiple heads to look after. Before you head out for fun in the sand next time, use these tips for a simple beach day that will bring about more relaxation and less stress.

Simple Beach Day - Danny Len - Mount Dora, FL

Arrive Early

Give yourself plenty of time to get to the beach early in the morning. This not only takes away the stress of rushing but also gives your gang the chance to pick out your favorite spot as opposed to later in the day when the crowds will have already taken over.

Sit By the Lifeguard

When you’re looking for your spot, keep an eye out for a good place that’s near the lifeguard chair. Having the guard nearby will give you extra peace of mind when everyone’s out enjoying the water. Plus, having a spot near a landmark like this one will help your children find you more easily.

Pack Smart

If you’re starting early, you’ll want to pack plenty of snacks and food for the day. Use separate Ziploc bags or Tupperware containers for individual items. This way, if sand or water gets in one, the rest will be saved. Also consider preparing and freezing items ahead of time rather than bringing ice in order to save room in the cooler.

Visit Danny Len Buick GMC and check out a new Buick or GMC model that will be perfect for your simple beach days this summer!

Two New Buick Vehicles to Look Out For

If anything gets the employees at Danny Len Buick GMC abuzz, it’s new Buick vehicles. To our delight, two new, luxurious Buick options were recently debuted at the 2017 New York Auto Show this spring. These new vehicles will be the first to fall under the new sub-brand, Avenir—French for “the future”—which will feature high-end options. The intention is for Buick’s new additions to appeal to younger buyers, and from the looks of things these new cars will be sought after by young and old alike.

new Buick vehicles - Danny Len - Mount Dora, FL

The first Avenir vehicle that debuted was the Enclave, a three-row SUV, followed by the Regal, Buick’s mid-size sedan. The Avenir trim level of these two already-sophisticated vehicles earns them an even more luxurious treatment. Quiet cabins, massaging chairs, and advanced in-cabin technology are some of the amenities that put the Avenir vehicles in direct competition with other luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz and BMW. But the Buick Avenir lineup will come at a more affordable price than these direct competitors, making them the more appealing options.

The Avenir vehicles make their appearance following a prolific year of redesign in the Buick lineup which included things like the new Cascada convertible. As the new sub-brand indicates, the future is bright for Buick. And the present doesn’t look too bad either.
