If you live in the Orlando area or you’re planning to visit, one of the most exciting things you can do to break away from the massive crowds at Disney and Universal is to take a scenic drive or go on a day trip to less famous spots in the city. Here are some of our favorite scenic trips in Orlando.
Take a drive to the Orlando Eye, where you can ride the enormous Ferris wheel and get a beautiful view of the whole city. You should also take a drive to Lake Eola Park and maybe have a picnic on the shorefront.
You can also take the Green Mountain Scenic Byway and check out the view of Lake Apopka or cruise down the Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway, which goes through several state parks and wildlife preserves.
Orlando is bursting with parks and gardens, and any one of them is a fantastic place to spend the day. Avon Park, Bok Tower Gardens, Cherie Down Park, and Brevard Zoo all offer beautiful views and plenty of opportunity for fun.
Orlando is also packed with small historic towns and sites like the five Carpenter Gothic Churches and the town of Evinston, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. For more history you can visit the Florida Museum of Natural History and so many others. And don’t forget to check out all the shopping districts around the area!
