If you’ve ever worried about your Amazon packages getting stolen from your porch while you’re not home, GM has an innovative solution for you. Select Buick and GMC vehicles now offer Amazon in-car delivery.
The service, called Amazon Key, is available for free for Amazon Prime members with an active OnStar® account. The service currently works in 37 U.S. cities and surrounding areas, with plans for expansion underway.
Alan Batey, President, General Motors North America, said, “[Amazon Key In-Car Delivery] is another example of how we provide customers with technologies that add value and enhance the ownership experience.”
To use this service, a customer will need to select the in-car delivery option when making their Amazon purchase. They will also need to download the Amazon Key App and opt in to link their Amazon and OnStar accounts. In the app, they will need to register their desired delivery locations.
When a delivery is on its way, the customer will receive a notification in the Amazon Key App. Then again, once the delivery is completed and the vehicle is locked. Deliveries can be made to a car parked in a publicly accessible area, like a parking lot or street.
